The crippling affects of domestic abuse
on our society is well documented due to its destructive impact on an
individuals emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual integrity.
The impact of abuse can create problems in other relationships, cause a
decrease in job performance, or debilitate an individual to a degree
that makes holding down a job seem daunting. Troubled by worry and
instability, one may find themselves unable to make the move to leave an
abusive relationship. Finding a new home, job, and resources can seem
overwhelming when living in an abusive relationship. Concerns over
children and the lack of support systems further complicate the matter.
For this reason, many women and men continue to live with the abuse. If
you think that you are a victim of domestic violence, seek help
immediately. Hesitating to get the support and help you need when living
in crisis may contribute to further breakdown, debilitation, and
impairment as your self-esteem erodes. If you think that you are a
victim of domestic violence, get counseling and develop a plan of
action. Domestic abuse is not always physical. Emotional abuse can be
just as painful.
